5 images production

i had my initial theme and my ideas for my photography i then went out to place my objects

i had practice before with placement and angles of the photos and their influence via light

this showed i had to have the object closer to the camera and at a comfortable angle

this showed that leaving the object in nature to become one with it made it look alot more natural and reflective of the theme
this showed how important light is so the object and the background are kept seperate and focus is drawn on the object
this showed how colour is important. it gave a influnce meaning wise and also to create contrast
this shows how the lighting should be done having the diffrences between dark and light it also was nice framming giving the object weight

finally this shot showed how the background can be used in each photo to show meaning, this one sheep

so i went out to leave my objects

i first went to place my microscope

this picture looked really nice, the object blended with nature and gave a real purpose to being there, i used a high dof to bring more of the picture into focus, i made sure there was alot of space in the frame to allow moment of thought and not make the object look out of place

i then left my painting. it looked really nice under the light and gave a real look of transcendence. i liked the reflections in the glass and hoped the wood would look good when more weathered

i then left these 3 objects. they looked really in place when i took these pictures and had a natural relation to the place i left them i liked it.

I then left them a week and came back

this is where things didn't go so well

i took lots of pictures but something felt off.

firstly the painting looked to placed it didnt have a natural ting to it which i wanted
secondly the andy golderworthy esc leaf paintings just looked silly but without them i felt the meaning was lost
i didnt like the framing and felt like i didnt feel the right things were being pertrayed, it felt overromantised

then i went to take a picture of the micro scope

IT HAD BEEN STOLEN

i kinda lost passion for the project and that point
but then i started thinking about the permanence of objects and thought back to a photo i had taken on my journey and this inspired me to take the theme down a different path

tree carving

i started thinking about how we create this idea of permanence for ourselves and how we influnce nature to create this idea.
this idea of carving into a living bio organism to promote our love and our identity which hugely interested me
i decided i wanted this to represent part of me so decided i would go out and carve the trees myself.
i thought alot about what the message should say, either I exist or a sentence....i decided on i think therefore i am as it represents a lot about the nature of self.

i choose my location farnham park as i knew it had lots of trees and a wide range of enviroment

i first started practicing craving on a log to get the technique i wanted

i then found the trees i wanted. the represnt the passage of life. young tree, old tree, dead tree, logs then reuse
each carving took a long time but i made sure i spend as long trying out different shots on them so i had one which was perfect. i wanted the style to look like someone had just stumbled across on them.
i had to be careful not to cut myself and wore gloves ect. ive done carving before so know what i'm doing
i wanted the backgrounds to be visible to give it a place in time.

i then started carving. one or two didnt work either the wood was too wet or i messed up but the majority worked. i kept the writing as simple and readable as possible

wanted it natural with human influence but no Photoshop
i wanted all the photos to connect to each other via landscape, life time, and words
i wanted natural light but to play with the elements of lighting in lightroom
wanted the photos to look amateur like someone had stumbled across the place.
wanted the photos simple so the message isn't muddied
wanted the photos to have a lot of texture
had to look like the were away from urban
i placed a reference to my old idea in one of the photos (the photo on permanence)

i took alot of diffrent shots and framings working from the stuff i had done before to create what i wanted

i was overall happy with my photos

i then moved onto post production and lightroom

i wanted no photo shop
i only use light room
from the shoot i had worked very careful with light at it's ability to illuminate the objects and leave shadow for definition
i used lightroom to really bring out that contrast and clarity
i then brought down the satiration whilst raising levels for yellow (writing)  and green (nature)
i kept the tone constant between each photo to reiforce the relationship between them.
presentation wise - i wanted a map to illustrate the journey and the placement of ourselfs in the world

this was the before and after in lightroom

for the presentation i went to hmv to get the poster i wanted

dfsa photography 5 images idea development

from the chat with leah i have decided to choose and focus on my first idea of the importance of humanity.

the idea reflects on the importance of humaity by putting man made object in nature like the have been left there.

this is the feedback recieved from leah

Jay
1. Reflections on humans and humanity
2. HIROSHIMA
3. Writing names into trees

i will look into my 4 artists as a starting point to further the idea's development.

ANDY GOLDSWORTHLY

his work revolves around connection to nature, he pieces are naturalistic and in his words a born and grown and decay as part of nature.

he created a piece in san francigo called drawn stone, it's a political message on the effects of the earth quake. so he uses his naturalistic artwork to illustrate a higher political message. using processes of nature. this is something i wanna replicate using natural process to illustrate a higher meaning. ie using a tree to represent growth for example.

he uses natural objects to create his art which he says means that the art comes from a more raw un editable position. his art reflects nature as it is. he often uses his hands and raw materials to create art. he is regarded as the founder of rock balancing.

these pieces show his methphors in his art, using nature to represent a concept. i like this idea to use for the background of me pieces to have this methphorical concepts as part of it.

clay on stone, edged to catch the morning light by andy goldsworthy

i really like"Clay on stone, edged to catch" as these use of flowing patterns of nature create a feeling a connection and then the piece he created out of place feeling. i like the idea of using patterns in nature and disfunction of these patterns to create feelings

water drawn on river boulder, woodycreek, colorado by andy goldsworthy
i also like "Water drawn on river boulder, " i like the use of symatry and order in a no ordered random nature,
i think it would work in my work, using this idea trying to create order in nature via creating symmetry and straigtness to represent the human situation of trying to create order

laid across oak boughs to make shadows on the ground below, dumfriesshire, scotland, 19 april 2014 by andy goldsworthy

i like this piece as using shadow as a reflection on nature. i also like the human shadow placed in the natural shadow to show human conection. i like the idea of maybe using this idea in my piece

gutter water - night, west 43rd street between 7th and 6th avenues, new york, march 5, 2010, (detail) by andy goldsworthy
this piece is also is intresting, finding nature in the city, using drain water as a natural element to paint a natural conection like a river in a city. i like this connection between the city and nature.
using natural patterns in the city is interesting

i also like the use of colours to create a disatament from nature using natural objects, also showing the intresting levels of immersion in nature. i want to use disatament of colour in my work

again patterns so a sort of organisation in nature which we try to recorate. i want to use paterns in my piece

i really like his rock stacking it creates a sort of order in nature. i want to show disorder in the universe and our attempt to create order by doing rock stacking.

i really like using a natural symbol connecting all 5 pictures.
