style - composite nightime windows

This is the style of windows i want. this is the modle i want to start with. complete black background and lighted up windows like this.

I think having diffrent shape windows works best to create isolated stories. I also dont like a iniform look like the last picture. making a shape out of the windows doesnt work either.

now i had to create this style and adapt on it for my own film.

1. Firstly photos of the windows themselfs. these will be cut out and used as frames

these frames will be cut out and then coloured.

I will use a post production filter to create the illusion of glass.

2. secondly i will create the objects in the foreground of the windows like curtains. this i may have to do in green screen.

3. i will need to then create in interiors of the rooms. I will film many different types of rooms and use mise en scene to create a atmosphere.

this is were set design will be most important and setting the camera to show the illusion of looking through a window. i am still thinking whether to use live action or a photo.
once im set on the stories/ theme i will start desing the interiers. they will need fairly realistic so i do it to peoples rooms.

4. i will have to create the shiloutes of the people or animals to tell the stories. I will either do this through green screen, routtascoping or animation.

this will all depend on time scale. rotascoping or greenscreen would look the best but animation would be quicker.

3rd year film- scenes/ themes

After talking in our group tutorial i realised the next step was to decide on themes and story ideas. I want to have stories to be go on their own without needing to be to thematically important. it should at the forfront of the piece.

another thing which came to my mind was connecting the windows together having something that pushes the story along. I had a few ideas like paper falling in the wind ect but my favroiute one and most visualy intresting would be a black cat

i think the black cat jumping between the windows would allow for alot of interaction which will be good for the story. also the cats connection to curiuosty works well with my theme.

here are a few ideas for themes/ scenes

abusive relationship- having a couple fight in one room, the light turns off and then in the other room them sleeping together passionatly.

learning- a school child throws their bag on the floor and runs to look through their telecsope.

pets- a pet bird flys out the window. dogs bark at the cat. lots of random animals in the room.

hoarding- room full of random objects. photos and objects of dead family membor.

faith - shouting father with kid. kid prays after he leaves.

addiction (acholism) - cat knocks bottles of windows sill.

party- girl throwing up out window. fun and crying.

news- window is tv. goes from news to cartoons.

A big part will be transiting between the more "normal stories" and the surreal methaphorical elements.

dfsa- 3rd year film. final idea

from thought through the ideas i have had. i settled on adapting a script idea i had last year. the idea came from looking at windows at night from my house. i particularly liked the windows with bright colours and the shiloutes that are shown of the people inside. I like the idea of the story you can only see snipits of, i think its a good way of telling a story.

i want to embulate this in a film. a black screen populated with little stories in each window. i will use animated character shilouttes but use live action windows.

I am intrested in maybe using the composite style in a couple of windows to create a surreal style.

sound will be muffled and words wont be able to be heard just intentions.

I will use active cameras inside aftereffects to move closer to windows.

I take influence from the film rear windows element on voyeurism. I want to take this further and use it as a methaphor for our voyeurism on world issues such as climate change and politics.

I will be using the mis en scene to create atmophers in the room. and location methaphors in the composite rooms.

Surreal documentry

I want to try something new. I've been playing around with the ideas of surreal documentary.

I want to access deeper meanings. using story, documentary, and surreal imagery.

I think if i use a subject for the documentry which is methaphorical i can end up telling more.
my first idea is to use the white dear of dunsfold or the abanodoned railway.

I want to combine documentary and composite film making influenced by surrealism and "up and up".

i need to devolp the idea further. i think it could work well as i've been struggling with the drama idea i had.

3rd year film- idea development

3rd year film

for my last year i really wanted to showcase my skills and improve in some key areas.

my areas i wanted to improve was -

after effects- in particular compositing
story telling - either through documentary or drama.

I want to work on a single film of my own and help out a couple of others post production.

from the presentations the people i'd be interested in helping is

umor- sound

maisie - animation

colin- lighting

(maybe others)

for my idea i have been struggling to think what i would want to do, especially in the debate between drama and documentary.

My main influnce and style influence was composite live action.

here is the information from my powerpoint.

story
A lone light house keeper keeps watch over a light house on an asteroid in space.
When something knocks into his lighthouse and fallen object gives him a flashback to something his had lost.
He sets off following a light in the sky
He visits worlds on his way

Ends up discovering something different in the end.

The man and the inside of the lighthouse will be drawn animation
I want a similar style to house of many cubes. intermit and scratchy
I will animate frame by frame to give a natural feel.
I made use live action but not sure.
